Experience the joys of nature right by our farm
Surrounded by flower meadows and bathed in sunshine, our farm stands at a height of 1,528 metres on Montezoccolo/Tschögglberg, one of the most delightful places in South Tyrol.
There are amazing views from here of the Dolomites (a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site) and of the rocky giants of the Sarentini Alps, the Texel Group and the Ortles. Our farm is right by the E5 long-distance trail, and makes an ideal base for excursions on foot, on horseback or by bike, around San Genesio and the local area.
We'll be happy to give you advice and help in planning your holiday.
In spring, the drifts of snowdrops and meadows carpeted with flowers are a real feast for the eyes. You can explore the conifer woods with their heady scent of resin, enjoy the many different colours of the wild flowers, walk from one farm to another and discover the picturesque villages of the plateau. You'll find lovely green meadows dotted with enormous larches, which have come to typify the particular attraction of this area known as "Il Salto/Salten" (the Leap). You can enjoy long hikes between mountain huts, visiting silent pools and mountain lakes. You can climb gentle slopes, but also tackle via ferratas and difficult ascents on the walls of Mount Ivigna, with breathtaking views to reward you for your efforts. Or you can get on your bike and explore the area on two wheels. We have plenty of health-giving sunshine here during the summer, but also fresh mountain air instead of the unbearable heat of the city. There's no better place to retreat to in hot weather, and leave your everyday worries all behind. On the rare days when it's really hot, you can cool off in the outdoor swimming pool at San Genesio, just 15 minutes away by car.
Autumn and Winter
The crisp autumn air gives a new vibrancy to the colours of the landscape, with magnificent views of the valleys and mountain peaks covered by the first snow. Under a clear sky and with the pleasant warmth of the sun on your skin, you can watch the magical play of the light on the autumn colours. With the arrival of snow, you can take relaxing winter walks and enjoy the silence of the woods - or strap on snowshoes and explore more remote corners of the plateau. Or else you can enjoy some early winter fun on the slopes of the nearby Merano 2000 ski area. You can rent sledges from us and try them out on the slopes behind the farm, or on the natural toboggan run at nearby Malga Sattler.
Our choice of hikes
Giogo di San Genesio
The Giogo di San Genesio is a popular destination for families, children and older people. You can walk to it in about an hour along an easy path, even suitable for a pushchair. At the Giogo di San Genesio mountain hut, you can enjoy sampling some South Tyrolean specialities, adding an special touch to your little excursion.
Hauserberg mountain hut
On the hike up to Malga Hauserberg hut you will get some wonderful views of the Sciliar and the Catinaccio. Starting from the farm, walk through the shady fir trees to the Giogo di San Genesio, and then continue to the rise known as “Putzergatter”. Follow the signs here for Malga Hauserberg. A narrow path will take you through a forest of stone pine trees, and then over some stone slabs to the mountain hut (about a 40-minute walk from the rise).
